The sex of a bird is determined by the egg – not by the sperm.
So sex-sorted semen cannot be used to prevent male Chicks.
Fertilised eggs can be sex-sorted by using infra-red photography and so reducing the hatching and killing of male Chicks.
This was done experimentally, in 2013, and was, “89 per cent accurate for fertilization and 76 per cent accurate for sex”; “images collected prior to 30 hours of incubation were suitable for use.”
